Shielded Voting by Shutter on GitCoin
Shutter’s shielded voting system addresses the challenges of decentralized voting systems by providing solutions to privacy concerns, manipulation risks, and voter apathy. Shielded voting uses threshold encryption to ensure fair and confidential voting, reducing the influence of token-rich individuals and enhancing fairness.
Only the combined voting power is shown during votes, and individual votes are revealed after voting has closed to safeguard against undue influence and improve trust in decentralized governance. The implementation of shielded voting on Snapshot has been widely adopted, securing over 2,330 proposals and facilitating 216,805 votes. We are also in collaboration with Kleros and Fractal to expand the reach of shielded voting and standardize its use on more platforms to enhance Ethereum’s resilience and governance capabilities.
Shielded voting is an open-source protocol that can integrate with any voting platform, setting a higher standard for voting privacy and security. Our commitment to an open and accessible ecosystem is demonstrated by the fact that shielded voting will continue to be offered free of charge on Snapshot with ongoing support and accessibility.
