Shutter DAO 0x36: How to Vote
During each Shutter DAO 0x36 vote, Shutter Token (SHU) holders can vote to approve or reject proposals up for a vote. SHU is a token on the Ethereum blockchain, with access controlled by a private key corresponding to the owner of each token. To cast their votes, token holders use the private key of their SHU-holding account (or delegated address) to sign a transaction or message that authorizes their vote with the SHU voting power. It’s important to note that these vote actions do not transfer any SHU. The Shutter DAO 0x36 community members can visit the voting platforms to view the list of open votes and cast their ballot accordingly.
These are the voting platforms currently available to cast a vote:
On-chain [Fractal]
Off-chain [Snapshot]
The “Proposals” sections show how many open votes there are, how much time is left for a vote, a snippet of the issue being voted on, and the current vote status.
SHU tokens from a genesis allocation
First, if you have an allocation of Shutter DAO 0x36 SHU tokens in the genesis allocation, you must activate your vesting and delegate the tokens to an address for voting.
You should activate your vesting and delegate your tokens to be able to participate in governance for Shutter DAO 0x36. Specified Claim Date is when you can claim tokens according to your vesting schedule.
You can delegate to a (hot) wallet controlled by you or another address that can then vote on your behalf. Even in the case that the hot wallet might get compromised, the attacker would be able to create and vote on proposals. Still, you could then re-delegate your voting power to a different address. Your SHU tokens would not be at risk since the SHU token uses the ERC20 Vote standard to delegate only the voting power, not the ability to transfer the tokens.
Shutter Tokens of Shutter DAO 0x36 are non-transferable until unpaused. An on-chain vote will be needed for Shutter DAO 0x36 to unpause the token, enabling the transfer of tokens. Once unpaused, the tokens can be used for voting by holding them in an address without the need to delegate to yourself anymore. Delegating to another address/entity will remain an option.
Voting
To participate in a Shutter DAO 0x36 vote, you should ensure that your Ethereum address has SHU voting power when the vote snapshot is taken. Once you have done this, you can visit the voting platform, select the proposal you want to vote on, choose the voting option that aligns with your preference, and then sign and broadcast your vote. Repeat this process for each proposal you intend to vote on until you have cast all your votes.
Participating in an on-chain vote using Fractal for Shutter DAO 0x36
Head on over to https://app.fractalframework.xyz/daos/0x36bD3044ab68f600f6d3e081056F34f2a58432c4 for the Shutter DAO 0x36 Fractal interface. You can see the past and current proposals on the Proposals page there.
On the list of proposals, click on the Details to view the exact proposal and vote on it.
On Fractal, every proposal has three voting options: Yes, No, and Abstain. Once you have selected your preference, sign and execute the transaction, which will be a contract interaction on the Ethereum mainnet. This transaction will involve a gas fee, and your voting choice will be recorded on-chain.
After a vote on Fractal closes, and it has successfully passed the quorum and received a majority approval rating, the associated transaction will need to be executed. Any community member can carry out the transaction execution through the Fractal interface. If the vote has been approved, a button to execute the transaction will appear on the interface. This transaction will involve a gas fee to execute the transaction on-chain.
Participating in an off-chain vote using Snapshot for Shutter DAO 0x36

On Snapshot, the Shutter DAO 0x36 has Any
selected as a voting type option. This means that each proposal can choose from a list of varying voting types on which one fits their needs best.
The list of voting options is as follows:
- Single choice voting
- Each voter may select only one choice.
- Approval voting
- Each voter may select any number of choices.
- Quadratic voting
- Each voter may spread voting power across any number of choices. Results are calculated quadratically.
- Ranked choice voting
- Each voter may select and rank any number of choices. Results are calculated by instant-runoff counting method.
- Weighted voting
- Each voter may spread voting power across any number of choices.
- Basic voting
- Single choice voting with three choices: For, Against, or Abstain.
For more information regarding voting types on Snapshot, see their documentation.
Depending on the vote type, select your preferred choice(s) to support and hit Vote. Then, you will be asked to confirm your vote and sign a message with your Ethereum wallet broadcasting the vote to the results. The message signing happens off-chain, so no gas fee is associated. The signed message ensures that you are the holder of the private key to that address and can cast your vote.
The voting strategy used on Shutter DAO 0x36 space is using erc20-with-override. This means that even if you have delegated your voting power to another address/entity, you can vote on a given proposal, overriding the delegate’s choice.
The Shutter DAO 0x36 Snapshot space also uses Shutter as the privacy option. Find out more about shielded voting on Snapshot at the Shutter Blog.
